Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that Celtic are committed to strengthening their connection with Irish talent. Currently, the first-team lineup includes two Republic of Ireland internationals—Adam Idah and Liam Scales—as well as rising prospect Johnny Kenny. Rodgers also mentioned Northern Ireland youth star Francis Turley, who made his Scottish Premiership debut last August and is progressing well in the reserve side. Rodgers said the club is actively working to improve its development pathway for Irish players. “We know how important the Irish market is to Celtic,” he explained. “We’ve got a few young lads coming through, but it’s going to take some time. Francis Turley, for example, has already had some first-team involvement.” Rodgers also stressed how crucial it is to physically bring the Celtic team to Ireland, especially with so many young Irish fans supporting Premier League clubs. “Celtic still has a strong draw, and our visit to America last year showed how big our following really is,” he added.
Idah’s Impact and Potential
Rodgers praised Adam Idah for silencing critics with six goals in his last six matches. The 24-year-old from Cork has made a real impression, scoring 20 goals in 22 starts. “He’s got so much potential,” said Rodgers. “Next season, with a full pre-season behind him, he’ll be even better. He’s adapting well and putting in the hard work we ask of him, especially in our high-pressing style of play.” Rodgers said that when Idah is confident, everything clicks for him because of his natural talent.
Kenny’s Future in the Balance
Another young player catching Rodgers’ eye is Johnny Kenny. After two years on loan at Shamrock Rovers, Kenny recently scored on his full debut for Celtic. Rodgers says a decision will be made during pre-season on whether Kenny stays with the first team or goes out on loan again. “He’s only 21 and he’s shown real promise,” said Rodgers. “But we need to balance his development—whether it’s better for him to be part of the squad or get regular game time elsewhere.”

Rodgers also praised Liam Scales for his strong return to the starting XI. “Liam’s a player I really trust. He came back into some big games and performed consistently,” Rodgers said. “I’m very happy with him.”

Rodgers is also excited about the upcoming friendly in Cork. “I’ve never been there, but I’ve seen the stadium—it looks fantastic. Those kinds of venues always bring a great atmosphere.” But before that match, Rodgers has his sights set on winning a third Scottish treble as Celtic prepare to face Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final. “We’ve put in so much hard work this season. We’ve already won two trophies, and now it’s time to focus and finish the job,” he said.
