Dean Rock Believes Louth’s Leinster Victory Was a Genuine One
Dean Rock is convinced that Louth’s recent success is no one-time fluke. After clinching their first Leinster senior title in 68 years, he believes the county is building something solid that’ll last for years. Louth grabbed that historic win with a couple of first-half goals and sealed it by finishing strong with the last three points to beat Meath at Croke Park.
It’s not just the senior side doing well either. The Under-20 team just picked up their first title in 44 years, and the minors are set to play Offaly in the provincial final next week.
Rock, who knows a thing or two about success from his days with Dublin—where he won eight All-Irelands and a dozen Leinster medals—thinks Louth’s progress is here to stay. Dean Rock Believes Louth’s Leinster Victory Was a Genuine one.
“They’re building a great culture in Louth,” he said on The Sunday Game. “You can see it across the board—from the U17s to the U20s, and now the senior lads. The senior team is leading by example and that’s inspiring the younger players. He also gave a nod to the people behind the scenes: the clubs, coaches, and everyone working hard to lift the standards. According to Rock, Louth has always been crazy about football and now they’ve got the facilities and the right people in place to take full advantage of that passion. “They’re not just having a good year—they’re setting themselves up to be contenders for a long time,” he added.
Rock also had plenty of praise for Ger Brennan, the man currently managing Louth. The two shared the pitch as teammates back in their Dublin days, including the 2013 All-Ireland final win over Mayo. Now, Rock is seriously impressed with what Brennan has done since stepping into the role following Mickey Harte’s exit.
“You have to admire the time and effort Ger’s put in. People weren’t sure how far Louth could go after Mickey left, but Ger’s taken them even further,” Rock said. “He’s turned Louth from the second-best team in Leinster into the best. While he’s humble and always credits the team, he deserves a huge amount of praise for what he’s done.”
