Kumawood actor Big Akwes has refused to apologize for his derogatory remarks about Cina Soul’s appearance, urging Ghanaians to revisit the viral video in question despite significant backlash from fans and celebrities.
Akwasi Asamoah, known as Big Akwes, addressed the criticism during a naming ceremony for Halifax Todd Nana Qwaachi, the younger brother of emerging singer Fotocopy, on April 6, 2025. During the event, Quecy Official, a TikTok personality and event host, confronted Big Akwes about whether he would consider retracting his comments and issuing a public apology.
In response, Big Akwes laughed off the suggestion, implying he found the backlash entertaining. “People are angry over that? It’s actually funny to me,” he remarked.

Instead of showing remorse, the actor encouraged the public to rewatch the viral video that sparked his controversial remarks. He stated, “Take another look at the video and judge for yourselves. Then you’ll know if I was wrong or not.”
His comments come after media personality Akosua Takyiwaa publicly apologized to Cina Soul following an offensive discussion on Max TV’s EQuick show. During the segment, Big Akwes used unflattering language to critique the singer’s fashion choices rather than her music, particularly her new album, Did I Lie, released on March 14, 2025.
Other panellists, including actor Amankwah Trump, laughed in agreement, further escalating public outrage.
The comments were met with swift condemnation from fans and public figures, who took to social media to defend Cina Soul and criticize the panellists for their lack of professionalism and respect.
The incident has reignited discussions about how the media treats female artists, with many calling for more respectful and constructive dialogues focused on artistry rather than appearance.
