Chelsea Drops $127m on Young Players

Chelsea is still working on its plan to build a team for the future, and they’ve just put a lot of money into some young talent. The Blues have officially signed Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo from Sporting CP for about £62.5 million (AU$127m) total. Chelsea Splashes $127m on Young Stars.

The Portuguese team said late Wednesday that 17-year-old winger Quenda is going to Chelsea for almost £44 million (AU$90m), and 20-year-old defensive midfielder Essugo will cost £18.5 million (AU$38m).

Quenda Stays at Sporting a Bit Longer

Quenda, who plays wing and has been doing great things for Sporting, was almost signed by Manchester United because his old coach, Ruben Amorim, was there. But Chelsea got him instead, so he’ll be at Stamford Bridge soon.

Even though he’s been bought, Quenda is going to stay with Sporting until the end of next season. This way, he can keep getting better in Portugal before he moves to English soccer.

Quenda is already known at Sporting. He’s played in the UEFA Champions League and scored his first league goal against Famalicao in October. He’s fast, good at dribbling, and can play different attacking positions, so he’ll be good for Chelsea’s future. Chelsea Splashes $127m on Young Stars.

Essugo Gets Loaned Out First

Essugo isn’t staying at Sporting. Instead, he’ll spend the rest of this season on loan at Las Palmas, a Spanish team in La Liga. He’s shown he can play well as a defensive midfielder, so he might be able to back up Moises Caicedo at Chelsea.

But, Essugo has had some trouble with discipline, getting two red cards in his last four games for Las Palmas. Still, Chelsea thinks he has promise, and he should join Enzo Maresca’s team in time for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States this June. Chelsea Splashes $127m on Young Stars.

Chelsea Likes Investing in Young Players

Buying Quenda and Essugo fits with Chelsea’s idea of building for the future by signing really good young players. They’ve already bought 17-year-old Brazilian Estevao Willian and 17-year-old Ecuadorian Kendry Paez for the summer, and people think they’re both going to be stars.

Chelsea wants to have a team that can win at the highest level for years. By getting young, talented players early on, they want to turn them into important players for the first team and still be smart about money.

What Happens Next?

Quenda will keep getting better at Sporting until he finally moves to Chelsea. Essugo will try to get more playing time at Las Palmas. If they both keep improving, they could be important in Chelsea’s midfield and attack in the next few seasons.

With the Club World Cup coming up in June, Essugo might get a chance to show what he can do in a Chelsea jersey pretty soon. Fans are going to be watching to see how these young guys do when they join the team and if they can live up to what the club expects.
