Ghanaian entrepreneur and Guinness World Record aspirant Afua Asantewaa has clarified that the only support she received from a government official during her initial sing-a-thon was medication.
In a March 13, 2025, interview with Nana Romeo shared on Instagram, she denied claims that the previous administration had gifted her cars and an apartment.
She stressed that the only item she received was medication for her sore throat, provided by former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“I did not receive anything from the government. The only thing I received was medication to soothe my throat, which came from the former vice president when he visited me during the performance,” she stated.
Afua Asantewaa also mentioned that while she heard about various gifts and financial support from individuals and organizations during her contest, most of these contributions did not reach her directly.

“I was told that people gave gifts and cash. However, it would be dishonest to say that I received them directly, as I was working with a team, and they handled most of these items. Some individuals wore T-shirts with my name, but I don’t even have a record of those who supported me financially.”
Mark Okraku-Mantey’s Advice
In a separate interview with Accra FM, Afua Asantewaa expressed her disappointment over Mark Okraku-Mantey’s suggestion that she consider beauty pageantry.
“I sang a song by Becca, and Mark Okraku-Mantey advised me to pursue beauty pageantry. His words hurt me.”
Despite her initial reaction, she accepted the advice and later participated in a beauty pageant, where she finished in second place.
She also addressed recent rumors claiming she received a house and an apartment from the government after her Guinness World Record attempt.
“Recently, I saw online claims that I was gifted a V8 vehicle. Some people are upset with me, thinking I have misused state funds, but that is not true. There are also false claims that I received an apartment, but I am currently living in my own home.”
Ghanaians are eagerly awaiting the results of her second Guinness World Record sing-a-thon attempt.
