ICYMT: Spurs Hit with Fresh Injury Concern
Chelsea is playing Leicester on Thursday, while Man City is heading to London to play West Ham on the same day. With a busy schedule coming up, both teams need to play smart in these games.
Leicester’s Plan to Mess with Chelsea Again
Leicester did something cool earlier this season: they drew 1-1 with Chelsea right before Christmas. In that game, Leicester only had the ball 29% of the time and only took one shot on target. But their tough defense helped them get a point, even though Chelsea scored late.
Miquel thinks Chelsea will feel even more pressure this time, after their recent draw against Brighton that was helped by an offside goal.
They’re the ones with the pressure on them. We just focused on defending, and that helped a lot, Miquel told Sky Sports. We knew we didn’t have anything to lose, and we got lucky by scoring on one of our few attacks.
She also said that Chelsea isn’t perfect. Like we saw against Brighton, they’re human. Sometimes they lose focus, and that’s when teams like us have to jump on it.
Chelsea’s Goalkeeping Problems
Chelsea used to have three amazing goalkeepers, but right now, only one is available. One is pregnant, another was let go, and a new player got injured soon after joining.
This leaves Chelsea with only a young player as backup. So, they had to bring back an old goalkeeper, who was a backup at another team, as their only other option.
Chelsea’s coach, Sonia Bompastor, said the situation is strange. Our goalkeepers are in a really weird situation. That’s why we brought Becky back—we need to have good players on the team.
Man City’s Lack of Players
Man City has had a lot of injuries , with some important players missing time. The club decided to have a small team, which has made things worse.
Also, City let a good player go to their rival team without getting a good replacement. Because of this, their chances of winning the league are getting smaller, and getting a Champions League spot might be hard.
City has a tough schedule coming up, with several games against Chelsea, a cup game, and a game against a good Brighton team. Coach Gareth Taylor said that his team isn’t in ideal shape .
We’re playing in a lot of games this month, and our team isn’t as strong as I want it to be, Taylor said. It’s hard, but we have a plan. It’s good to be playing often, though.
With Chelsea having goalie troubles and City not having enough players, these WSL games will be big in deciding how their seasons go. WSL Talking Points: Chelsea’s Strangeness.
