Legend Rips Guardiola’s Tactics

Ex-Premier League goalie Tim Howard thinks Man City’s boss, Pep Guardiola, has changed the game a lot, saying his tactics have ruined football for other teams. Legend Blasts Guardiola’s Methods.

ICYMT: Nottingham Forest Edge Out Aussie Pair

Howard, a Premier League star who played 399 games for Man United and Everton, says Guardiola’s new style has made managers everywhere try things they just can’t pull off. Guardiola, 54, has already won 37 trophies, but his ideas are still changing football in ways that Howard doesn’t always think are good.

Guardiola’s Tactical Changes

Since he started managing at Barcelona, Guardiola has had a clear plan: a smooth style that focuses on keeping the ball and passing fast. His tiki-taka way, with short passes and moving all the time, was how Barcelona bossed everyone.

Besides tiki-taka, Guardiola is also famous for using a false No.9 and having full-backs attack a lot. The best example of the false No.9 was Lionel Messi at Barcelona. He would drop back into the middle, pull defenders out of place, and make space for others to attack.

Guardiola also changed what full-backs do, wanting them to have lots of energy, good skills, and attack a lot. Kyle Walker, when he was at his best, was like this, using his speed to run past wingers, stretch the defense, and make the attack less predictable.

Howard’s Take on Guardiola’s Impact

Talking on Optus Sport’s Takes from the Terrace, Howard said he’s worried that Guardiola’s success has made managers everywhere copy his style without having the right players.

Pep Guardiola might be the best manager ever, but I think he has ruined football, Howard said. He has made managers think they can play a false 9, an inverted full-back, or a back three when they don’t have the right players.

Howard thinks that Guardiola’s wins have made people think there’s only one way to win games. He’s so good that people think they can copy him, but not everyone is Pep Guardiola, he added.

How Football Has Changed

Howard also talked about how players think differently now compared to before. He said that in his day, teams were tough and could change their game, but now teams just focus on skills and don’t have the toughness to win in different ways.

He’s taught everyone that they can play that way, but it’s not true. Only a few teams can do it well. Sometimes, you need to be smarter and more practical, Howard said.

Even Guardiola’s Friends Have Joked About What He’s Done

Guardiola’s impact has not only gotten heat from people on TV, but also from old teammates. Italian legend Luca Toni, who played with Guardiola at Brescia, joked that he ruined football by making the false No.9 popular, which meant fewer chances for strikers like him.

Pep, you ruined football. Because of the false nine, I couldn’t find a team for four years, Toni joked in a video online. Do you even like center-forwards? Stop using the false nine—big strikers are better! Legend Blasts Guardiola’s Methods.

Messi might not agree with Toni, but one thing is for sure: Guardiola’s tactics have changed football for good. People can argue whether he’s made the game better or worse, but he will always be known as one of the best managers ever.
