Chelsea Issues Warning to Palmer as Struggles Continue
Chelsea’s star player, Cole Palmer, is having a tough time lately. This has raised worries about his future if the team can’t finish in the top four. Even with a strong 4-0 win over Southampton, Palmer hasn’t scored or assisted in the last seven games. Chelsea Handed Palmer Warning.
Palmer’s Frustration Grows
The 22-year-old played all match against Southampton and looked upset after missing several chances to score. Before the game, Chelsea’s coach Enzo Maresca mentioned that the team may be relying too much on Palmer. But in this match, Chelsea proved they could score without him, as four players got on the scoresheet.
Former Premier League coach Tim Sherwood weighed in on Palmer’s situation during Matchday Live on Optus Sport. He thinks Palmer isn’t lacking confidence but might be overthinking things as he tries hard to score again.
Sherwood Confident in Palmer’s Comeback
“He didn’t seem happy, and he has every reason to want to get back in the game,” Sherwood said. “He works hard for the team. He even created space for Cucurella to score. But in the first half, he was rushing his shots. Earlier in the season, he would have put them away.”
Sherwood believes in Palmer’s talent and calls him a “superstar” who has helped Chelsea quite a bit this season. “He’s still young, and I think he’ll bounce back. But his body language wasn’t great. Maresca kept him on the field, hoping to help him find his form.”
Palmer’s Future Uncertain?
Even with his struggles, Palmer is still motivated. He posted on Instagram, saying, “Don’t worry, I will be back.” He made a strong impact since joining Chelsea last season, leading to a long contract until 2033. But his growing frustration could make things uncertain for him.
Sherwood warned Chelsea that to keep Palmer happy, they need to play in the Champions League. “In my opinion, he’s the best player at Chelsea, but he wants to play in the Champions League,” he said. “If they don’t finish in the top four next season, they might lose him.”
Chelsea’s win over Southampton put them temporarily into the top four, but that spot is not safe. If Manchester City or Newcastle win their next matches, Chelsea could drop back out of the Champions League spots. That adds to the worries about Palmer’s future with the team.
