Parliament’s Appointments Committee has called on Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor to provide proof for his allegations that the committee solicits money from ministerial nominees in exchange for their approval.
The claims, which have stirred controversy, were firmly denied by the Committee Chair Bernard Ahiafor, speaking on Tuesday, January 28, labeling the accusations as unfounded, insisting that neither he nor any member of the committee had participated in such actions.
“To ensure this matter is addressed, I am instructing the Clerk of the Committee to formally summon him to appear before us tomorrow, 29 January, 2025 and back his claims with evidence. Otherwise, we will take appropriate legal steps,” Mr. Ahiafor said.
He emphasized the need to safeguard the credibility and fairness of the Appointments Committee.
The activist is expected to present supporting evidence during the scheduled meeting on January 29, in the meantime, some opposition members of the committee have urged a temporary halt to the vetting process until Mr. Barker-Vormawor addresses the allegations.
