The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has received a much-needed financial boost of GH₵35 million from the Ministry of Education, paving the way for the timely release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
The funds, received on December 25, were announced in a statement signed by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi. The Council expressed its commitment to ensuring the results are released by the end of December 2024, alleviating concerns over disruptions to academic calendars and tertiary admissions.

The financial intervention comes amidst heightened anxiety among stakeholders, including parents, students, and educators, who have raised concerns about delays in results processing. The injection of funds will enable WAEC to complete critical processes, such as the scanning of objective answer sheets and the finalisation of results. WAEC assured the public that its team is working tirelessly to meet the set deadline.
Despite this progress, the Council reminded the Ministry of Education of its remaining financial obligations. “The Council is appealing to the Ministry of Education to release the outstanding balance to enable it to pay supervisors, invigilators, script checkers, suppliers of examination materials, and meet other financial obligations,” the statement emphasized.
