Students with disabilities from the University of Education, Winneba, and University Cape Coast have protested outside the Scholarship Secretariat in Accra, demanding the release of long-overdue scholarship funding promised by the government.
The unhappy students, represented by the Association of students with Disabilities, argue that a lack of funding jeopardizes their education.
In an interview monitored by ATLFM, the group’s chairman, Aminu Mahama, told Citi News that they were promised payment last year.
“We were more patient with them and most of us did not pay our school fees because we had it in mind that with the scholarship, we would be paid but that did not happen.”

According to the dissatisfied students, the administration of their institutions has threatened to postpone their studies if payment is not paid promptly.
In order to avoid this, the group has pledged to spend the night at the Scholarship Secretariat if they do not obtain a positive response.
Aminu Mahama also said that the administration has continually failed to deliver on its scholarship commitments.
“We kept on doing the follow-up this year and so we came here and wanted to know the very day they would be paying us because we were on the verge of deferring our courses and we are now doing everything we can to ensure that the monies are released to ensure we don’t defer our courses.”
