The University of Cape Coast makes another progress as it commissions its newly built training and Conference Centre at Agona Nyakrom in the central region this morning.
The minister of education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum is expected to commission the facility at exactly 9:00 am.
The project consists of 162 standard bedrooms, 16 executive bedrooms, 10 seminar rooms, and 1 large conference room.
Auxiliary facilities in the project include Shops, indoor recreational rooms, a kitchen, a servery, a restaurant, and an outdoor multi-purpose recreational court.
There is also a caretaker’s Apartment, a 2 bedroom semi-detached house with a kitchen, living and dining area, visitors washrooms, entrance porch, and outdoor areas in each detached house.
Drivers Lounge, self-contained 8 bedroom with living/dining area, entrance porch, washing room, visitor’s washroom, and kitchenette.
The full air-conditioned newly built training and Conference Centre will serve as a marking resort where lecturers in the College of Distance Education (CoDE-UCC) will meet for residential marking of students’ exams as well as training of postgraduate students, and for other retreats of the university when required.
The project was stalled for more than 3 years as a result of contractual issues but with approval from the public procurement Authority, it was awarded to an Accra-based Benburto Enterprises Limited.
The project consultant that offered operational and technical expertise to the project was the Directorate of physical development and estate management (DPDEM), University of Cape Coast.
Also in attendance is the Omanhen of Agona Nyakrom Traditional area, Okofo Okatakyi Nyarko Eku x, Management of the University of Cape Coast, and Government Officials, among others.
The Training and Conference Centre was initiated by the Former Vice Chancellor of UCC namely, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng, 2001-2008, and continued by Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice Chancellor of UCC, 2008-2012, Prof. Domwini Dabire Kuupole, Vice Chancellor, 2012-2016 and Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, Vice Chancellor, 2016-2020.
