Bellingham’s signing had been a fiercely contested battle between Real Madrid and Liverpool and Manchester City throughout the 2022–2023 season.
The midfielder acknowledged that Los Blancos’ 1-0 victory against Liverpool in the 2022 Champions League final—a game he attended with Zinedine Zidane—helped Real Madrid’s cause in the end.
“It’s hard to pinpoint the precise moment when I decided to join Real Madrid. I’ve always had a lot of respect for the team, and the fact that I was present for the final versus Liverpool played a significant role. I made my decision based on a variety of factors, he stated.
Throughout his press conference, Bellingham reiterated that his decision was not one motivated by money and was instead fueled by a desire to play for a club like Real Madrid.
