Speaking to ATL FM NEWS after the event, Coach for the team Pentane from the All-Nations University, Dr. Charles Boakye expressed excitement at their victory, noting that their victory was a result of thorough preparation.
“We used to sleep late in the night. The book that they gave to us, had almost 138 pages and we had to cover all the pages, every chapter, and every sentence in it. So, it wasn’t easy at all. We studied and we came to book our seats for the semifinals.” He said.
He further applauded the event organizers and indicated that they were poised to win the 2022 Gas challenge.
The Chairperson of the planning committee of the Gas Challenge, Mrs. Augustina Asare-Osei congratulated the All-Nations University on its win and expressed appreciation to the various institutions for participating in the competition.
According to her, the challenge was instituted in an attempt to bridge the gap between industry and academia as well as to spark the interest of students in the field of gas.
“We realized quickly that a lot of even professors teaching oil and gas and engineering courses are not really familiar with the operations of Ghana gas and even the indigenous gas that we have here.” He stated.
He also stated that their aim is to sensitize the public through the media with the hope that it will help in scouting future engineers, younger men and women that will take over the baton when the older generations are not there.
The Gas Challenge was launched in 2019 with the aim of creating public awareness about the operation of the gas industry in Ghana as well as improving society with regards to the domestic use of gas, the economic opportunities along the gas value chain, health and safety matters related to the use of gas.
Speaking on ATLANTIC WAVE prior to the event, which was held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, Mr. Benjamin Kwaku Asare, the senior officer in the government relations department of GNGC indicated that the challenge forms part of GNGC’s effort to impact society and to spark students’ interest in the gas industry.
He, therefore, said the company through stakeholders and tertiary institutions disseminates the discussions of gas.
“We know that as a company like Ghana gas, directly providing critical support to our power industry, we are a direct player when it comes to our economy and so management thought it wise to go to the doorsteps of established institutions.” He continued.
Mr. Asare emphasized it is the company’s belief that developing people’s awareness and interest in Gas as well as in other related matters as done for petroleum matters in general will long way to developing a maximum interest in helping Ghana.
