The Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) has written to the Ministry of Education to seek permission for students to feed themselves.
According to PRINCOF, the current market trends coupled with high indebtedness and unapproved upward review of feeding grants informed their decision to tow that path.
PRINCOF in a letter addressed to the Minister of Education on Monday, October 31, 2022, indicated that it has become “increasingly difficult for Principals to continue to provide three square meals a day to students at Six Cedis, Fifty Pesewas (C6.50)”
The principals are therefore seeking permission from the education ministry to allow them to ask their student-teacher trainees to effectively from Monday, November 7, 2022 fend for themselves.
This they said, is to ensure the already stretched academic year is not disrupted.

Meanwhile, in a response by the ministry through the Public Relations Officer of the Education Ministry, Kwesi Kwarteng, discussions are being held with the Finance Ministry “to swiftly resolve all outstanding obligations/commitments to the Colleges of Education.”
He said they are committed to ensuring that the disruptions within the food supply chain ahead of the November 7th ultimatum are addressed.
