President Akufo Addo says as part of efforts to give a facelift to the tourism sector to be a destination point in West Africa for tourists, the Cape Coast and Elmina Castles in the Central region and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in the Greater Accra region will receive “comprehensive renovation and modernization”.
This, he explained in his State of the Nation Address on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, to Parliament is due to the large arrival of visitors in December 2021 for the December Ghana (GH) component of the “Beyond the Return Project”, something he said should be cherished in the country.
“Last year, the country recorded some six hundred and twenty-three thousand, five hundred and twenty-three (623,523) visitors, up from the three hundred and fifty-five thousand, one hundred and eight (355,108) visitors, the year before, signifying a marked rebound of our tourism sector. We should recapture those glorious moments and build on them as we work hard to reclaim what we lost to the COVID years,” he intimated.
To this end, he said ‘Government is, therefore, undertaking a comprehensive renovation and modernization of tourist attractions across the country, such as the Cape Coast and Elmina Castles, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, which will enable us position Ghana as the preferred tourism destination in West Africa.’
He further explained that the Creative Arts Senior High School in Kwadaso which is currently under construction and is 70% completed will also serve “as a beacon for many young and talented people, seeking a fulfilling career in this field.”
To him, the youth must be given the needed education and skills training in Creative Arts through the unleashing of their creativity, enterprise, and innovation.
