The Centre for Gender and Research Advocacy and Documentation (CEGRAD) at the University of Cape Coast will today March 8, 2022 hold significant discussions as part of activities to mark the 2022 International Women’s Day.
The discussions will bring together different women groups from the environmental agency, fisheries sector, market women, girls from secondary school among others.
The discussions will focus on “achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all men, women, boys and girls in the context of climate change and environmental disaster risk management”
The focus topic is hinged on the international Women’s Day themed: “gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.

Speaking to ATLFMNEWS ahead of the programme, the director of CEDGRAD, Dr. (Mrs.) Georgina Yaa Oduro noted that, the issue of environment and climate change is very important and the topic must be significantly discussed in relation to climate action for women and by women.
According to her, the progress of women in society is tied to global development as women account for 50 percent of the world’s population.
As such she explained that the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is relevant in achieving global development.
The discussions will take place today at the School of Medical Sciences (SMS) Auditorium of the University of Cape Coast at exactly 10:00am.
Men are invited to join in the discussions as well.
International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is celebrated yearly on March 8 and it is in recognition and celebration of the women and girls who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation and response, and to honour their leadership and contribution towards a sustainable future.
