Majority of members of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), University of Cape Coast has voted to reject the decision of the association’s national executive council to suspend its strike.
In a YES and NO referendum, 415 votes cast out of the total votes of 511 kicked against the suspension of the strike, while 96 members voted in support.
The NEC of UTAG after an emergency meeting held on Thursday, February 17, 2022, resolved to suspend the about six-week-old strike till 4th March 2022 to engage with government.
President of UTAG-UCC, Dr. Bert Boadi Kusi told ATLFMNEWS the rejection of the decision to suspend the strike will not affect academic work which begun in earnest on Monday.
The NEC of UTAG now has five days to consider the results and take a final decision.
In the interim, members of the association have been urged, in accordance with the UTAG constitution, to return to the lecture halls and teach.
