President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has stated that the nation is forever indebted to the security agencies and will give them the needed tools to enhance their operational capabilities.
Presenting 40 Jeep J8 vehicles, 6 Toyota Hiace minibusses, and 14 Toyota Hilux pick-ups to the Ghana Armed Forces on Wednesday, 27th October 2021, the president said the retooling of the security will also assist counter the danger presented by extremist groups operating along the northern borders.
The presentation of the vehicles is also part of the government’s commitment to equipping the security agencies in the country to clamp down on the activities of the jihadist groups operating in the West African Sub-Region.
In recent months, reports have revealed an increase in the activities of the jihadist groups operating in neighboring Burkina Faso, Mali, and Cote d’Ivoire, raising fears of a possible spillover of their activities into Ghana.
According to President Akufo Addo, the government will continue to retool the military apparatus to give off its best to protect the country.
“Government is constantly kept apprised of the needs of the armed forces. And as your commander in chief, I’m taking steps to ensure that they are met.”
He noted that the vision of ensuring equitable distribution of development, progress, and prosperity to all parts of the country can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace and security assuring that “we are determined to continue in this vein and satisfy the legitimate demands of the armed forces.
The president who also cut the sod for the commencement of work on the $24.8 million housing project for the troops indicated that Forty half compound houses will be built at the Burma Camp, 10 each for the naval base in Sekondi, an air force base in Tamale, a fourth infantry battalion in Kumasi and the first infantry battalion in Sunyani.
This he explained will give a total of 320 units which will be added to the housing stock of the armed forces.
