Two police officers were killed when their vehicle collided on the Walewale-Bolgatanga road.
On Thursday, they were chasing thieves on that stretch of road when the event happened.
Chief Inspector James Akakose Aroma and Corporal Nii Osekle Charles are the officers that died. They died on the scene as a result of the crash.
According to a police report, three additional policemen on board the car, Constables Akanvariwen Daniel, Ezekiel Quarshie Tawiah, and Iddrisu Gafaru, suffered various degrees of injuries and were taken to the Walewale Government Hospital for medical treatment.
Due to the severity of their injuries, Constables Ezekiel Quarshie Tawiah and Iddrisu Gafaru were subsequently sent to the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
“The North East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr Moses Ali led a team of Senior Police officers to the hospital to visit the victims on admission and efforts are being made to airlift them to Accra for further treatment,” the police said.

On 21/10/21 at about 1710 hours C/Insp James Akakose Aroma in charge No. 46167 Const. Akanvariwen Daniel, No. 56153 Const. Ezekiel Quarshie Tawiah, No. 55211 Const. Iddrisu Gafaru on board Police Service vehicle No. GP 437 driven by No. 46392 Cpl. Nii Osekle Charles, all of the Special Anti-Robbery Taskforce drawn from Accra and based in Walewale in the North East Region were involved in a fatal road accident on the Walewale – Bolgatanga road.
The Taskforce was responding to an emergency call of robbery attack on passengers on that stretch of the road.
The Chief Inspector and the driver died on the spot. Bodies were deposited at the morgue of West Hospital in Tamale. Constables Ezekiel Quarshie Tawiah and Iddrisu Gafaru were referred from Walewale Govt. Hospital to Tamale Teaching Hospital due to their critical conditions. Const. Akanuariwen Daniel is still on admission in Walewale in stable condition.
