President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also expressed condolences to the family of former Aviation Minister Joseph Kofi Adda.
In a Facebook post, President Akufo-Addo said that the late Adda would be missed and remembered for his diligence and forthrightness.
As a result, he prayed for God’s support for his family “in these difficult times.”
“I am shocked and very saddened by the news of the sudden death of my friend, the former Minister for Aviation and former Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Hon. Kofi Adda. I extend my deepest condolences to his wife and family for their loss and pray for God’s strength for them in these difficult times.”
“Kofi Adda will be missed and will be remembered for his diligence and forthrightness. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”
Mr. Adda, the former Member of Parliament for the Navrongo Central seat in the Upper East Region, died on October 13, 2021.
Tributes to the late politician continue to flood in.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President, has also expressed condolences to Joseph Kofi Adda’s family.
Dr. Bawumia expressed his sadness at his death in a Facebook post.
“I have received with sadness the passing of my elder brother, Joseph Kofi Adda, a former Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central and a former Minister of State of the Republic. My condolences to his family and friends on the loss of an industrious patriot”, Dr. Bawumia posted.
Kofi Adda’s Biography
Joseph Adda was born at Navrongo, the capital of the Kassena-Nankana District in the Upper East Region of Ghana.
He completed his secondary school at St. John’s School in Sekondi and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in politics and economics from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana, USA, between 1979 and 1982.
Between 1982 to 1984, he attended Columbia University in New York, where he earned a Master’s degree in International Affairs with a concentration in Finance and Banking.
He then received a graduate degree in African Studies from the same institution.
He earned a degree in French language and culture from the Sorbonne University in Paris, France, in 1989.
A career in politics
Mr. Adda first joined Parliament in 2003, when he won a by-election to the Navrongo parliamentary seat.
This occurred after the death of its incumbent MP, John Achuliwor. He was re-elected to the seat in the 2004 general election.
Mr. Adda worked in a variety of positions under the government of John Kufuor.
He was named Minister of Manpower Development and Employment in 2005, and he subsequently became Minister of Energy in April 2006.
When the NPP lost the national elections in 2008, Joseph Kofi Adda maintained his seat, but he lost it again in 2012 to Mark Woyongo.
He won the seat in the 2016 election but lost it in the NPP’s parliamentary primary ahead of the 2020 election to Upper East Regional Minister Tangoba Abayage.
