The University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (UTAG), UCC Branch, on Monday, held a hand-over and swearing-in ceremony to officially induct its newly elected leaders into office.
The new executives are Dr. Jerry Opoku-Ansah (President), Dr. (Mrs.) Joanna Eva Dodoo (Secretary) and Dr. Beatrice Asante Somuah (Treasurer).
Speaking at the ceremony, the immediate past President of the Association, Prof. Samuel Bert Boadi-Kusi indicated that although there are challenges facing the association, his current administration ensured that these challenges were dealt with.
According to him, the past executives made significant achievements during their term of office adding that there was outstanding work to be done in order to overcome challenges confronting members of the Union.
He therefore encouraged the newly sworn-in executives to work closely with the current and future University management while remaining firm and objective in their dealings.
Prof. Bert Boadi-Kusi touted the significant contributions made by the association to the development and advancement of academic excellence at the University of Cape Coast and UTAG.
He particularly emphasized the importance of unity among faculty members in achieving their shared goals.
On his part, the newly sworn-in president, Dr. Jerry Opoku-Ansah, on behalf of the new executives pledged to uphold the values and goals of the UCC branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana.
He pledged his commitment to fostering a sense of unity and collaboration among the faculty members to enhance the academic environment at the university.
“As a physicist, I believe in work done. So, we need the pivotal support of members as a driving force to carry out this huge mandate entrusted upon our shoulders, we ask for your unflinching support and cooperation to make us succeed. We’ll work together with all members, make UTAG great and strong” he continued.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong reiterated his administration’s continuous commitment to work with the leadership of the UCC branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana.
He, however, advised the new executives to work beyond reproach and maintain the long-standing collaboration that exists between management and the Association.
