The Ministry of the Interior has announced that Friday, November 8, set aside for 2024 Farmer’s Day will not be observed as a public holiday.
The Ministry however indicated that Friday, December 6 2024, which officially marks Farmer’s Day remains a Statutory Public Holiday.
The National Farmer’s Day Celebration traditionally held on the first Friday in December was rescheduled to November 8th this year to avoid coinciding with the December 7 elections.
This led to many assuming the new scheduled date November 8th would automatically become a public holiday.
In a statement released on Tuesday, November 5 2024, the Ministry of Interior emphasized “The General Public is hereby informed that Friday, November 8th 2024 is NOT a Public Holiday even though the 2024 National Farmer’s Day will be observed on that Day.”
“However, Friday 6th December 2024, which marks Farmers’ Day, remains a Statutory Public Holiday and will be observed as such throughout the country.”
