The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has received a major boost to its emergency response and engineering capabilities following the donation of three heavy-duty trailer heads by the United States Government.
The equipment, valued at more than $600,000, was officially handed over to the Engineer Training School (ETS) of the Ghana Armed Forces during a ceremony held on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
Donated under the Africa Crisis Response Initiative, the specialised trailer heads are designed to transport heavy engineering equipment, including road graders, backhoes and front-end loaders, which are critical for disaster response, infrastructure development and humanitarian operations.
The donation is expected to strengthen the military’s ability to respond quickly and effectively during national emergencies, natural disasters and large-scale infrastructure projects.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chargé d’Affaires at the United States Embassy in Ghana, Rolf Olsen, said the support reflects the longstanding partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment to security, development and humanitarian assistance.
According to him, the Ghana Armed Forces continue to undertake projects that have a lasting impact on communities across the country, making the investment a worthwhile contribution to national development.
Mr. Olsen highlighted years of cooperation between Ghana and the United States through peacekeeping missions, military exercises and capacity-building programmes.
He also referenced the deployment of Ghana’s 48 Engineers Regiment to Jamaica in December 2025 to assist with recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa, describing it as a clear demonstration of the growing collaboration between both nations.
“The United States remains committed to this partnership for the long haul,” he stated.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the Government of Ghana, Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, expressed appreciation to the United States Government for what he described as a timely intervention.
He noted that the donated vehicles would significantly improve the military’s ability to deliver humanitarian assistance during emergencies while supporting critical national development projects.
According to him, the Ghana Armed Forces are increasingly playing a broader role beyond traditional security duties, including environmental protection, disaster management and infrastructure support.

Mr. Brogya Genfi disclosed that military personnel are currently assisting efforts to reclaim polluted rivers and rehabilitate degraded forest reserves destroyed by illegal mining activities in collaboration with the Minerals Commission.
He further highlighted the contribution of military engineers to ongoing works on the Accra–Kumasi Expressway, particularly in clearing the right-of-way needed for construction.
The Deputy Minister also acknowledged previous US support that facilitated the deployment of Ghanaian engineers to Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa, where they participated in reconstruction efforts.
He urged personnel who will operate the newly donated vehicles to ensure proper maintenance and efficient utilisation to maximise their impact.
Officials believe the equipment will not only improve emergency response operations but also enhance the Ghana Armed Forces’ capacity to support national development initiatives and humanitarian interventions across the country.
The latest donation further underscores the growing cooperation between Ghana and the United States in the areas of security, infrastructure development and disaster response.
