Francis Addai-Nimoh, a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claims that Ghanaians and party delegates will choose him as their preferred candidate for president on January 7, 2025.
In his second attempt, Addai-Nimoh is vying to represent the NPP as the party’s nominee for president in the general elections of 2024.
The former Mampong legislator claimed during an appearance on Face to Face on Citi TV that dynamics and history favor him being the next leader of the governing NPP.

Even though he will be competing against several party veterans who have held public office, he said it doesn’t matter.
“You recall that at the National Congress at the Accra Sports Stadium when I said the party needs a new face, we are not in opposition and the historical antecedent has it that, if you bring someone who is part of the outgoing government, the person doesn’t succeed. In the case of Professor Mills as sitting vice president and a candidate for the NDC, the party couldn’t make it in 2000. Akufo-Addo couldn’t make it in 2008 as a minister in J. A Kufuor’s administration and in 2016, John Dramani Mahama couldn’t make it as a sitting president.”
He also hinted that history would repeat itself because he had previously defeated some of the people who had expressed interest in running for flagbearer.
“In the same manner, in 2014 in which I beat some of the aspirants who had served in Kufuor’s administration, I will beat them again,” he told Umaru Sanda Amadu.
Leading NPP members Kennedy Agyepong, Joe Ghartey, Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and the former trade and industry minister Alan Kyerematen have all expressed interest in leading the party in the general elections of 2024.
Additionally, Mr. Addai-Nimoh expressed his desire to run for office on February 1, 2023.
