Government has begun a nationwide exercise to strengthen oversight of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) as part of efforts to improve accountability, service delivery and the management of public resources.
The initiative, being led by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, will assess all 261 district assemblies across the country to determine how effectively they are implementing government policies and delivering development projects.
The exercise commenced with visits to the Ga West, Ga East and Ga North Municipal Assemblies.

Government believes the review will help identify challenges affecting project implementation and service delivery at the local level.
Concern Over Public Funds

He highlighted concerns regarding the administration of certain public funds, including disability support funds, and emphasized the need for strict adherence to accountability and transparency standards.

Nationwide Exercise
The Ministry plans to extend the assessment to all 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies across the country.
