Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, on Monday, June 22 2026, led a delegation to visit families displaced and affected by the recent building collapses within the Cape Coast South Constituency.
The delegation included the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Cape Coast, Mr. George Justice Arthur; the Central Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization, (NADMO), Mr. Kwesi Dawood; and the Metro Director, NADMO, Mr. David Owu.

Speaking to the media during the tour, Mr. Ricketts-Hagan emphasized the need for proactive measures to prevent future disasters, stating that both authorities and residents must stop waiting for buildings to cave in before taking action.
He noted that weak and deteriorating structures must be reinforced to mitigate the ongoing risk.
The lawmaker highlighted structural vulnerability in the area, pointing out that buildings in Cape Coast are more than 200 years old, constructed from clay, and completely lacking routine maintenance.
“Every year, we experience building collapses here in the metropolis, and we are constantly dealing with the victims,” Ricketts-Hagan stated. “This shouldn’t be the case; we need to find a lasting solution to this. Residents living in weak structures must take immediate steps to reconstruct them where necessary.”
The MP also announced that temporary accommodation would be provided for individuals displaced by the recent disasters, describing it as an urgent humanitarian response to support affected families.
He reiterated that he looks forward to long-term sustainable solutions that will prevent these recurring incidents.
Mr. Ricketts-Hagan commended the Central Regional NADMO team for their swift emergency responses to the various incidents across the region.
He appealed to benevolent individuals and corporate organizations to assist in resourcing NADMO to ensure every disaster victim receives adequate support.
