The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised prospective Umrah pilgrims in Ghana to temporarily suspend their travel plans due to the evolving security situation in parts of the Middle East.
In a travel advisory dated March 2, 2026, the Ministry cautioned that ongoing developments in the region could disrupt travel arrangements.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to advise that following the rapidly evolving security situation in parts of the Middle East, prospective Umrah pilgrims in Ghana are to note that travel arrangements for Umrah may be affected,” the statement said.
The Ministry urged all prospective pilgrims who are yet to commence their journey to exercise restraint until conditions stabilize.
“The Ministry therefore advises all prospective Umrah pilgrims who are currently in Ghana and yet to commence their journey to temporarily hold on with travel plans until the situation stabilizes. The safety and well-being of Ghanaian nationals remain the Government’s utmost priority,” it emphasised.
For Ghanaians already in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, the Ministry advised them to remain calm and adhere strictly to directives from local authorities.
“Ghanaians who are already in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for Umrah are advised to remain calm, comply strictly with directives issued by local authorities, and maintain regular contact with their travel agents, the Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate General in Jeddah,” the statement added.
The Ministry further indicated that prospective pilgrims and Ghanaian nationals requiring additional information or emergency consular assistance may contact designated hotlines in Ghana and Saudi Arabia.
The advisory has been copied to all media houses as government continues to monitor developments in the region and prioritize the safety of its citizens abroad.
