Former Vice-President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emerged victorious in the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s January 31 presidential primaries.
Dr. Bawumia polled 56.48 %of the total valid votes cast across the 16 regions of Ghana.His closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong polled 23.78%.
Meanwhile Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr.Yaw Osei Adutwum and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyapng gained 18.53%, 1.02% and 0.21% respectively.

The official declaration was conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC) at the NPP’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra.
At the official declaration event, the other candidates congratulated Dr. Bawumia and pledged their support as well as their readiness to aid the NPP re-capture electoral power in 2028.
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the General Secretary of the party also urged party faithful to remain committed to the party’s course ahead of the December 2028 polls.
Dr. Bawumia in his acceptance speech expressed appreciation to diverse stakeholders and extended an olive branch to the other candidates.
The party is set to elect executives in the coming the months.
What remains to be seen is how the party reunites to propel Dr. Bawumia as its candidate.
