ATLFM’s Veteran Sports Journalist, Asante Fokuo, has been officially recognized for his lifelong commitment to sports development at the 6th Osabarima Royal Awards held on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
The award comes after over two decades of consistent sports journalism coverage, marking a journey that began in 2002. He received the award for the “Most Dedicated, Outstanding, and Longest-serving Sports Journalist in the Cape Coast.”
The Osabarimba Royal Awards, an initiative by the Oguaa Traditional Council under the leadership of Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, celebrate individuals and organizations that have contributed significantly to the socio-economic and cultural upliftment of Cape Coast.

As the lead newscaster and reporter of the sports department at ATLFM, Mr. Asante Fokuo has, since 2002, provided in-depth coverage, expert analysis and a voice for local athletes and sports enthusiasts across the Central Region and Ghana as a whole.
This recognition highlights his consistent presence within the media landscape, his status as one of the longest-serving sports journalists in the region, and his mentoring of many in the industry.
Mr. Fokuo currently serves as President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Central Regional Branch and is also the spokesperson for the Central Regional Football Association.
Upon receiving the award, Mr. Forkuo expressed his profound gratitude to the chiefs and people of Cape Coast for recognizing his long years of service to sports development.
“Since 2002, the journey has been all about God’s grace, hard work, selflessness, voluntary service, respect, and determination. My sincere thanks go to the Chief of Cape Coast, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta, and the award organizers for this great honour.”
Mr. Asante Forkuo extended his heartfelt gratitude to a wide circle of mentors and colleagues who have shaped his journey.
He gave special recognition to Dr. Kwabena Atwi-Konadu, Prof. Nyarko-Sampson, and Mr. Fiifi Ofosu-Okyere, alongside several key figures, including Dr. Ogum, Mr. Boye, and Barrister Daniels.
He also honoured the support of his “amazing colleagues”—past and present—from ATL FM and Dormaa FM, the UCC Alumni NEC, and his family, led by his supportive wife.
