The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MOGCSP) has called for the adoption of gender-sensitive safety protocols for women and vulnerable groups in crowded public events.
They are also calling for proper crowd management and designated support services for such individuals.
In a statement, the Ministry said that the stampede incident, which occurred at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on November 12, 2025, and claimed the lives of 6 potential female recruits, “highlights the vulnerabilities faced by individuals, especially women, children, and Persons with Disabilities in high-density public events.”
They urged all relevant stakeholders to ensure accountability and implement protective measures to prevent similar occurrences.
The Ministry extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, stating that “We share in their pain and grief during this difficult time and pray that they find comfort and strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
It also acknowledged President Mahama’s compassionate outreach, commending him for showing “his fatherly role in supporting the victims.”
