Meta is planning to establish a super PAC aimed at supporting California candidates who favor a light-touch approach to AI regulation, according to Politico. This announcement comes as other major players in Silicon Valley, such as Andreessen Horowitz and OpenAI’s Greg Brockman, commit $100 million to a new pro-AI super PAC.
The tech giant intends to invest tens of millions into its initiative, named Mobilizing Economic Transformation Across California. Brian Rice, Meta’s VP of public policy and head of the new PAC, has expressed concerns that Sacramento’s regulatory environment could “stifle innovation, block AI progress, and jeopardize California’s technology leadership.”

Earlier this year, Meta’s lobbying efforts targeted state senator Scott Wiener’s SB-53 bill, which would require AI companies to disclose safety protocols and report safety incidents. Last year, the company also played a role in defeating the Kids Online Safety Act, which was expected to pass.
Meta has already contributed to various down-ballot candidates from both parties, and this new PAC indicates its intention to influence statewide elections, including the upcoming governor’s race in 2026.
