Big news for Louth GAA plans for a brand-new stadium in Dundalk are finally kicking off! Louth’s Stadium Leap got a major push after a funding deal between Louth GAA and Croke Park was finalized, giving the green light for phase one of construction. The announcement came during a county board meeting on Monday night, marking a big step forward in Louth’s long-running dream of a modern, dedicated home ground. Louth’s Stadium Leap.
The first phase of the build is expected to take about 16 months, and once it’s done, the stadium will be able to hold around 6,000 fans. That’s just the beginning, though. The full cost for this phase is estimated at up to €24 million. Out of that, Louth GAA will contribute around €5 million. To break it down: clubs across the county will chip in €1.5 million through an agreed levy, while the remaining €3.5 million will come from local fundraising efforts. Louth’s Stadium Leap.
If this all sounds familiar, it’s because the original plans for a 14,000-seater were put on hold back in 2023 when Croke Park requested a full review. Now, with the funding plan back on track, Louth is ready to move forward. A county representative told RTÉ Sport that financial support is coming from multiple sources, including the government, Central GAA, local contributions, and other revenue streams.
The job of building the stadium goes to local contractor Ganson Group. Phase one will include a 4,080-seat covered stand on the south side, a full-size pitch with top-tier floodlights, standing areas behind each goal, parking, and a separate building for key facilities. Phase two featuring a north-end terrace is on the cards too, but it’ll kick off once extra funds are available.
Louth GAA Chairperson Séan McClean was clearly thrilled. He called it a “momentous day” for Gaelic games in the county. “This new stadium will not only be a fantastic home for our county and club teams but also a valuable community hub,” he said, giving a huge thanks to the GAA and all the clubs that backed the plan.
And the timing couldn’t be better Louth’s senior, Under-20, and minor football teams are all enjoying success in their respective competitions. This stadium could be the next big step in supporting their rise.
