President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in a Minister of State and thirteen Deputy Ministers in a brief ceremony held at the Jubilee House, reinforcing his pledge to maintain a lean and efficient government.
Administering the oaths of allegiance, office, and secrecy on Wednesday, 12 March, 2025, the President emphasized his administration’s determination to reduce the size of government while ensuring effective governance.
“From the outset of this administration, I gave a solemn assurance to the people of Ghana that I will fulfil my promise to create a lean, efficient, cost-effective and performance-driven government,” President Mahama stated.
“I committed to reducing the size of government from the largest ever in the history of our country to the smallest ever, while guaranteeing that every ministry or agency critical to national progress receives the necessary support to fulfil its objectives.”
He stressed that the aim was not just to cut numbers but to ensure prudent use of public funds, noting “It is grounded in our firm belief that government must exercise fiscal discipline by ensuring that public resources are used efficiently and responsibly.
There must be a fair balance between government expenditure and the responsibility of citizens to fund national development through their taxes,” he added.
The newly sworn-in Minister of State in charge of Public Sector Reforms, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, speaking on behalf of her colleagues, thanked the President for the confidence reposed in them.
“We are committed to helping you realize your vision of resetting this country to where it belongs,” she said. “Mr. President, I want to make a solemn promise that we will never disappoint you. We will do our best.”
