Acting Director General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Engineer David Osafo Adonteng, is encouraging all transport services, companies, and unions to register under the authority for streamlined operations across Ghana.
This initiative follows the launch of “TransportGhana,” an IT-based project aimed at automating and regulating road transport services, introduced in 2023 by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In an interview with GBC, David Osafo Adonteng emphasized the importance of registering all transport operations under the regulatory framework to ensure compliance and continued operation.
He described the registration process as electronic (e-registration), simplifying procedures for entities such as GPRTUs and PROTOAs.
Mr. Adonteng clarified that even individual commercial vehicles without organizational affiliations could undergo registration.
He outlined the process stating that “We provide a link or application form which, when filled out and submitted, undergoes automatic review. Successful applicants receive operational licenses.”
Highlighting safety measures, Engineer Adonteng noted the installation of monitoring devices in commercial buses to track driver behaviour during long-distance trips.
These devices he says monitor actions like speeding and reckless driving, aiming to promote safer transportation practices nationwide.
