Ghana’s Independence Day is celebrated every year on March 6. This day is widely celebrated among Ghanaians as a public holiday across the country.
This year’s celebratory festivities will centre around the Youth Resource Center in Koforidua, Eastern Region, symbolizing a robust gathering centre for the community to upgrade Ghana’s independence journey and foster togetherness.
To ensure that this year’s celebration transitions smoothly, previously neglected roads that degenerated over the years have been upgraded, traffic signals have been restored, and faulty streetlights have been replaced.
Meanwhile, Residents of Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, have expressed their contentment with the significant development efforts undertaken by the government in preparation for hosting Ghana’s 67th Independence Day celebrations.
The planned celebrations have attracted the participation of renowned dignitaries, including the President of Ivory Coast, Alassane Dramane Ouattara, who will serve as the special guest of honour at the event.
Various events promised to take place at the celebration include a football match, flag hoisting, and a designated clean-up exercise.
Coupled with the display of skills, a diverse range of contingents comprising security agencies, schools, regional teams, and other groups will grace the occasion.
Local establishments, including hotels, restaurants, and pubs, are gearing up to accommodate and entertain guests arriving for the celebration.
Residents have also noted the positive impact of the ongoing infrastructure improvements, highlighting the improved aesthetics and functionality of the city.
With preparations in full swing, the Ministry of the Interior has officially designated Wednesday, March 6, 2024, as a national public holiday to mark Ghana’s 67th Independence Day anniversary.
Koforidua is set to offer a memorable experience for all attendees marking Ghana’s 67th Independence Day anniversary.
By this declaration, government offices, schools, and businesses will remain closed to commemorate this significant day in Ghana’s history. The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, emphasized the importance of observing the holiday to honour the sacrifices and achievements of Ghana’s founding fathers.
“The public is hereby notified that Wednesday, 6th March 2024, recognized as Independence Day, is a designated Public Holiday to be respected nationwide”, he noted.
