A 27-year-old housekeeper was sentenced to two and a half years in hard labor by the Accra Circuit Court One for stealing $16,000 from his employer.
Thomas Yokpo contested the charge, but was found guilty and sentenced accordingly following a trial.

According to the prosecution, a formal complaint was filed with the police, and during the investigation, the police discovered that Yokpo had left the motorbike in Koforidua with a friend, a witness in the case, and traveled to Nigeria for Greener Pastures.
It was claimed that on September 27, 2023, the convict’s acquaintance in Koforidua, Richmond Annin, was detained, and that through him, Yokpo traveled from Nigeria to Ghana and was apprehended on September 30, 2023.
Yokpo admitted to the crime in his caution statement, telling the court that his friend Gideon, who was at large at the time, assisted him in fleeing with the money and the motorbike.
Inspector Alorwu stated that the exhibit motorbike had been recovered and was now in the possession of the Police.
Yokpo was charged with the crime and brought before this Court after an inquiry.
