President Akufo Addo says government has initiated the right steps to secure the lives of all those who will soon be returning to schools for academic work.
He said, prior to their return, “Government through the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service has ensured that all tertiary institutions, public and private have been disinfected. Universities with their own hospitals have been equipped with the necessary Personal Protection Equipment and they have isolation centres to deal with possible cases”.
The President gave the assurance in his 11th televised address to the nation on Sunday night. According to him “All other institutions without their own hospitals have been mapped with health facilities” this he indicated is to ensure that the right medical attention is given in case there is a positive case.

He said to aid in government effort in containing a possible spread in schools, “a total of 600, 000 face masks have been distributed to the tertiary institutions. this is to enable every student, teaching and non-teaching staff to have three reusable face masks.” he added that 1,700 Veronica buckets, 200, 000 litres of hand sanitizers, 3,400 litres of liquid soaps, and 900 thermometre guns have been distributed.
The President said he has met leaders of all the institutions of higher learning in the country who have pledged their readiness to support the government to ensure the guidelines are effectively executed.

President Akufo Addo in his 10th televised address to the nation eased some of the restrictions imposed on the country in the bid to contain the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. Schools are now allowed to reopen for only final year students in the Junior High Schools, Senior high schools and Universities.
University final year students will be in school on Monday 15th June 2020 while final year Senior High School students are expected to resume on 22nd June 2020.
Junior High School students who are preparing for their final examinations will also go back to school on Monday, June 29, 2020. However, all other educational institutions other than the final years will remain closed.
