The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abream (KEEA), Hon. Solomon Ebo Appiah has urged Ghanaians to avoid politicizing the Komenda sugar factory and to give it their full support.
According to the MCE of KEEA, the factory belongs to the nation and that it has come to stay and to bring development to the nation, therefore it is critical to work together to ensure that the intended benefit of the facility is achieved.
Mr. Ebo Appiah made this declaration in an exclusive interview on ATLFM’s “Biribi Soronko” last Saturday in response to reports circulating that the sugar factory will be importing raw sugar for processing.

Although raw sugar will be produced locally to feed the factory, he asserts that raw sugar would also be imported to augment what is produced locally, to ensure the factory’s full operationalization.
According to him, management is taking this step to ensure that the facility has a steady supply of raw sugar.
“We have quite substantial out growers that will feed the industry. However, in the event that the raw materials that we need is not enough, we have secured land from Sekyere Heman, Sekyere Obuasi, Winneba, Shama and Komenda and we have started nursing some of the sugar cane,” he adds.
The Komenda Sugar Factory is one of the government’s many endeavors to provide jobs for the Komenda community and those from other parts of the country. The $35 million factory has been inactive since its commissioning in 2016, however, President Nana Akufo-Addo indicated earlier this year that it would be operational by April 2022.
To that effect, Mr. Ebo Appiah reaffirmed that the facility would soon be in operation.
