Minister of Finance Kenneth Ofori-Atta will be in Parliament today, Thursday, July 29, to give the mid-year review of the 2021 budget, which was delivered earlier this year.
On March 12, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu delivered an assessment of the government’s economic strategy and financial statement.
Mr. Ofori-Atta was seeking medical treatment in the United States at the time due to his infection caused by Covid-19.
To fund Covid-19 spending, the 2021 budget suggested the implementation of a Covid-19 Health Levy consisting of a one percent rise in the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) and a one percentage point increase in the VAT Flat Rate.
However, no additional taxes will be imposed as a result of the study.
“I can tell you that there will no introduction of taxes in the mid-year budget review,” a Deputy Finance Minister, John Ampontuah Kumah, told Media General‘s Eric Mawuena Egbeta on Monday, July 26 on the sidelines of an economic dialogue addressed by the Ranking Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament.
At the forum, he represented Mr. Ofori-Atta.
The mid-year budget reading will begin at noon.
