The 2024 Aboakyer festival was formally opened on Tuesday, February 13, at the Kojo Beedu Community Centre in Winneba by the chiefs and people of Effutu in the Central Region.
Chiefs, locals, and officials from corporate entities turned out in large numbers for this year’s celebration, which has the theme “Promoting Tradition and Development through Aboakyer Celebration.” They all pledged their unwavering support for the festival.
Neenyi Ghartey VII, the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, spoke at the launch and asked everyone to work together to maintain peaceful coexistence, particularly in light of the political atmosphere before the general elections.
“Let us start putting our houses, environment, and resources in order for the celebration. Let the Guan spirit in us drive the celebration, because we are noted to be highly hospitable, loving and caring and that must be our hallmark for the festival.

“We should be more united than ever, to enjoy the peace we have built and the solidarity that comes with it especially during the general elections. Let us not do anything that will jeaopardise the peace in this country”, he said.
Residents and businesses were invited to actively engage in and support the festival’s preparations and celebrations by Neenyi Ghartey VII.
He emphasized the financial benefits of the occasion, stating that Effutu Aboakyer provides a thriving market for companies looking to interact with the locals and support the festival’s success.
“Effutu Aboakyer offers the best in traditions and excitement. Our patronage is high and it provides a good market for businesses,” he stated.
The Aboakyer Festival is scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 27. It will feature a variety of events, such as a football tournament, a health walk, a marathon cycle race, a gospel musical night, and a Miss Aboakyer beauty contest, among others.
The festival’s activities come to a head on Sunday, May 5, with a large durbar that takes place after the Asafo companies’ customary deer shooting ritual.
