To reduce human-initiated fraudulent activities on MTN’s mobile money platform, Chief executive officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh says the education of its customers on socially engineered fraud is key.
According to him, the vulnerabilities such as third-party access into its systems have been re-looked at to ensure the minimization of Momo fraud in the country.
Mr. Adadevoh was speaking to journalists selected from the Central and Western Regions at a Media and Stakeholders Forum as part of the Company’s effort to deepen understanding of its key stakeholders in their operations in Takoradi.
The forum, under the theme: “Leveraging technology to serve customers with excellence,” aimed at bringing journalists, editors, and other relevant stakeholders to share ideas and foster collaboration between the company and the stakeholders.
According to him, there were processes that needed to change on the MTN frontlines, services centers, and call centers, as how to manage their systems to address vulnerabilities into their systems.
He however notes that one additional layer of security added to the company’s platform will further change the layers of vulnerabilities that people are exploiting.
“And for our third parties to support us, they need access to our systems. And we found that a lot of our vulnerabilities were coming from some of these third-party extensions into our system. So we had to relook at our access control system who we give access to, what level of access we give to others” he said.
He noted that there has been a massive decline in MoMo fraud in the past year due to the blockage of phones used in such frauds across all networks in the country.
The CEO said there is a need to react in a manner that allows the defense to the new technologies and strategies being perpetuated by the fraudsters.
Mr. Selorm Adadevoh observed that fraudulent transactions are not only a challenge for his company but also a canker for Ghana.
He, therefore, appealed to Ghanaians to see the issue as a national one so as to elicit the appropriate holistic efforts and responses to stem the practice.
