The Municipal Chief Executive for Komenda-Edina-Aguafo-Abrem Municipality, Mr. Solomon Ebo Appiah has assured of his outfit’s commitment to restoring the municipality back to normalcy after the flooding situation.
A broken bridge at Jukwa and the overflowing of the Surowi river at the weekend rendered many homeless with properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis destroyed. Affected persons ended up seeking shelter at the school blocks, churches, and mosques.
Speaking on ATLFM’s Atlantic Wave on Monday 20th June 2022, Mr. Ebo Appiah indicated that the Municipality has suffered many losses over the past few days due to the flooding adding that leadership is apt in ensuring the situation is addressed.
He noted that his office is currently engaging various stakeholders to get the needed advice to salvage the situation.
“We have engaged the various stakeholders and experts so that they can properly advise us so that we will know the mechanisms to put in place to ensure the problem does not happen,” he said.
On his part, the Central Regional Head for the Disaster and Training Department of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr. Enoch Kojo Forson said the upsurge in floods can properly be managed if an end is put to the human-induced activities on the environment.
He also charged the Municipal Assemblies to look into building permits and to keep an eye on such activities of individuals that contribute to the flooding.
