The University of Cape Coast (UCC) Senior Staff Association (SSA UoG, UCC Local) has marked a historic leadership transition on January 30, 2025, as outgoing chairman Sandy Kumi Sinatra officially handed over to newly elected chairman Christopher Aggrey.
The handing-over ceremony, held at the Academic Board Chamber of the University, brought together senior staff, faculty members, and distinguished guests.
The event was chaired by Prof. Moses Joojo Eghan, who represented the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Moses Joojo Eghan, Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, praised the dedication of both the outgoing and incoming leadership, emphasizing the importance of continuity in advancing the association’s mission.
“Essentially, this transition paves the way for new leadership, as we have all witnessed the sterling leadership of our brother, Chairman Sandy Kumi Sinatra.This association has traveled this pedestal with pride, and a lot has been learned under his leadership. Now is the moment where he transitions to another level.”
He further emphasized the need for a smooth leadership transition, adding, “Let everyone know that officially, Chairman Sandy has handed over peacefully and beautifully. We welcome our new chairman and look forward to a fruitful engagement.”
Newly elected chairman Christopher Aggrey expressed his deep gratitude for the trust placed in him by his colleagues and vowed to lead with integrity, accountability, and dedication to the welfare of SSAUCC members.
“I stand before you today humbled and honored to accept this mantle of leadership as your new chairman. I pledge to work tirelessly to justify your confidence and to elevate our association to even greater heights.”
He further acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor, Sandy Kumi Sinatra, describing his leadership as a “beacon of hope and resilience.”
“To my predecessor, the indefatigable Sandy, I express my deepest appreciation for your selfless dedication to our cause. I pledge to build upon the foundation you have laid and to achieve more for every senior staff member.”
Outlining his vision for the association, Aggrey highlighted his commitment to fostering unity, collaboration, and professional development, stating “We will work to create a congenial environment that promotes inclusivity, transparency, and accountability. To our cherished members, we promise to listen to your concerns, amplify your voices, and champion our collective cause,” he assured.
Mr. Aggrey also extended a hand of partnership to university management and key stakeholders, stressing the importance of collaboration noting “Together, we shall form a formidable team, dedicated to the welfare of our members and to achieving industrial harmony within the university.”
In his farewell address, Sandy Kumi Sinatra reflected on the association’s achievements during his tenure, expressing pride in the milestones reached.
“Looking back, I am filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment, knowing that we have not disappointed our members. Collectively, we have achieved numerous milestones, fostered a strong sense of community, and advocated for the welfare and well-being of senior staff.”
He highlighted key accomplishments, including the restoration of overtime allowance, senior staff allowance and promotions, increased transition from senior staff to senior members, enhanced staff loan and housing schemes, the institution of SSAUCC Week celebrations, and significant financial growth, leaving a balance of over one million cedis for the association.
Mr. Sandy Kumi Sinatra urged members to rally behind the new leadership, expressing confidence in Aggrey’s ability to drive further growth.
“I have every confidence that the association will continue to thrive under the new leadership. I urge all of us to extend the same level of support and cooperation to the incoming chairman and his executives.”
