The Provost of the College of Agric and Natural Sciences at the University of Cape Coast, Professor Moses Jojo Eghan has charged security personnel on campus to be professional in discharging their mandate of protecting lives and properties in the University as demanded of them.
According to him, security is key to promoting sanity and order in the university community, hence the need for every security personnel to be disciplined and work to protect the image of the university.
“I challenge you to be professional in executing your duties when at post; let me repeat higher rank means more responsibility and I believe this includes reporting to work on time which should be key because you need to be at your post,” he intimated.
Professor Moses Eghan made this call during the maiden Rank Wearing ceremony held at UCC to promote thirty-eight security guards to security guards two and security assistants.
The personnel were promoted to the ranks of Senior Officer, Assistant Senior Officer, and Senior Guard (Grades 1 and 2).
Out of the number, there were thirty-seven (37) males and one (1) female.
He indicated that the security guard on campus duties is but are not limited to protecting the university property and its staff, securing the environment, observing for signs of crime or disorder, investigating disturbances on campus, and acting lawfully in direct defense of properties of the university.
He, therefore, urged them to rise to the call to make the university a headline, doing right things at all times and adding that “even when no one is watching let us help to promote the image of this institution.”
On his part, the head of security, Col. Rtd Joseph K. Baah-Tsiquaye said the promotion is necessary as it will help motivate the security personnel to be able to live up to the task.
He hinted that security on campus has improved under his tenure and as such urged the members of the university community to help the security guards to execute their mandate.
Some of the newly promoted security guards expressed their joy and appreciation to the management for the promotion. They however appealed to management to provide them with the needed equipment to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.
