President of the University of Cape Coast Local chapter of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Famous Kofi Banini has revealed that his outfit will soon launch a skills hub to help train students and equip them with various essential skills.
The aim, according to him, is to help the students develop and chart a career path for themselves aside from the training they are receiving as students.
Mr. Banini said this is one of the initiatives the Local NUGS is bringing out to ensure that the Union becomes relevant on Campus and help students achieve their dreams.
In an interview with ATLFMNEWS, Mr. Banini indicated “even before assuming office, the students had a few concerns, especially the relevance of NUGS in their dealings as students’ because for some time now they have not really seen NUGS coming up to do anything for them. That has been even one of the motivations for myself and the entire executive board.”
The president also hinted that efforts are being made to ensure that 100 computer science students of the University are taken by AmaliTech Ghana, a technology firm that creates employment pathways in the tech sector for young graduates, in Takoradi to undertake their national service with them.
“Assurance they gave us is that even after their National Service, they will be able to employ some of these students; and all this lie in the domain of opportunities,” he hinted.
Famous Kofi Banini further explained that it is important for students in the university to as part of their studies engage in extracurricular activities to know what is going on around them.
He said, “leveraging the opportunities extracurricular activities present makes the students who are involved more viable in the job market”.
He, therefore, urged the students to consider treading on that path to possibly secure their future.
