The University of Cape Coast and the General Manager of the Campus Broadcasting Services, respectively, have received awards at the second Osabarima Awards held last Saturday.
The University of Cape Coast was awarded the best tertiary institution based on the feats it has achieved over the years, notably, the best University globally for research influence, number one university in Ghana and West Africa and also ranking among the top five universities in Africa.
Mr. Kwabena Antwi Konadu, General Manager of the Campus Broadcasting Services also received the best broadcaster award for being a “visionary inspired leader and a mentor in broadcasting” for over two decades.
Addressing the gathering, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II indicated that there are plans to expand the awards in subsequent editions to accommodate other categories.
He revealed that the ‘Cleanest and filth free suburbs in Cape Coast’ category would be included in future in an attempt to promote cleanliness in Cape Coast and its environs.
“We want to encourage everyone who works in Cape Coast to work wholeheartedly and diligently so that one day your effort will also be recognized and rewarded accordingly,” Osabarima added while thanking all who made it to the programme and soliciting for support for subsequent editions.
Sharing her thoughts with ATLFMNEWS on the awards ceremony, the Acting Director for the Centre for National Culture, Cape Coast, Ms. Dorcas Salamatu Alhassan, described the ceremony as a good initiative that must be sustained.
The overall best BECE student in Cape Coast Master William Nartey, who also took an award, expressed gratitude to the Oguaamanhen for the award.
The awards ceremony, which is also to create a platform for major industry players in Cape Coast to network, had fourteen categories. They include Entertainment and Fashion, Media, Banking and Finance, General Business, and Public Sector. The rest are Education (First and Second Cycle/Tertiary), Health, Religion, Tourism, Social, Indigenous profession, and Honorary awards.
All award winners, dignitaries, and sponsors had dinner with Osabarima Kwesi Atta II at Ridge Royal Hotel to climax the event.
