Fresh elections for polling stations and electoral area executives are expected to take place in the Twifo- Hemang Lower Denkyira constituency after the cape coast circuit court upheld an injunction sought by 21 aggrieved New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in the constituency.
Following this declaration, earlier elections and acclamation have been declared null and void.
This comes on the back of recent fraudulent polling stations executive elections which led to the aggrieved party members filing their cases to the court to seek redress.
In the Court proceedings on Thursday, March 17, 2022, her Lordship Dorinda Smith, judge for Circuit Court 2 indicated that all the evidence from both plaintiffs and dependents were diligently scrutinized and upon examination, both parties have rights to be protected.
The court subsequently granted the injunction and agreed that new elections be organized to elect new leaders as per the constitution of the party.
Lawyer for the Plaintiff’s Lawyer Micheal Bonney who spoke with the media after the court proceedings stated that they are happy with the proceedings.
He said “the court said because of the timetable for the national elections it will be in their interest to come and sit down with us so that we do properly laid down elections. If we lose we lose and if we win we win. All we are calling for is that, make it plain and let people who are applied to contest; contest and at the end of the day we declare the winner.”
On his part, Assistant Secretary and Presiding Member of the Hemang Lower Denkyira constituency, Nana Kweku Abban expressed delight that the verdict had gone in their favor.
He further called on the national executives of the party to supervise, monitor, and organize the subsequent election.
