The Ghana Statistical Service announced last week that inflation had risen to 27.6 percent in May 2022, up from 23.6 percent in April.
The drivers of this development are many, with local items playing a significant role.
According to Statistical Service data, 56.2 percent of the items responsible for the rise in inflation are domestically produced food and non-food products, while 43.8 percent are imported.

Based on year-on-year figures, grapes, which are imported, showed a 100.8 percent increase, followed by fuel, which is also imported, at 81.1 percent.
Firewood saw 73.7% year-on-year inflation.
