The Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Ángel Lossada Torres-Quevedo, has underscored the importance of global collaboration in tackling major global challenges such as maritime security and climate change.
During a recent visit to Ghana’s Western Region, the Ambassador joined a special engagement aboard the Spanish Navy patrol vessel Relámpago, which docked at the Sekondi Naval Base.
The visit formed part of the European Union’s coordinated maritime presence in the Gulf of Guinea, an initiative aimed at enhancing regional maritime security.
Speaking to journalists during the engagement, Ambassador Torres-Quevedo stressed that international partnerships are more crucial than ever in an increasingly interconnected world.
“The world today is not a world of isolated states. It is a globalized world. Countries must work together to address big global issues from security and safety to climate change,” he said.
He further noted that Spain and Ghana share mutual interests in ensuring safety at sea and maintaining regional stability, emphasizing that security challenges like piracy and illegal trafficking cannot be tackled in isolation.
“Security cooperation works in the benefit of both our countries. The seas have no borders. Our common safety must be guaranteed in this liquid environment, and the only way to achieve that is through strong international cooperation.”
The Ambassador’s visit and participation in joint activities with the Ghana Navy reaffirm Spain’s commitment to supporting peace and security initiatives in West Africa, especially through partnerships with coastal nations like Ghana.
